Frequently asked questions
What is CertScore?
CertScore scores your verified IT certifications by difficulty and shows where you rank. You add your professional certifications (AWS, Cisco, CompTIA, ISC2 and others), we confirm them with the issuing platforms, and each verified certification earns points that rank you on global and regional leaderboards.
How does verification work?
When you add a credential, we confirm it against the issuing platform (such as Credly, Accredible or Microsoft Learn). If ownership can be confirmed, the credential is marked as verified. If not, it stays as self-reported and earns 0 points. Uploaded files, photos and manual entries are always saved as self-reported with 0 points. See how CertScore verifies credentials for more details.
What do Verified, Expired and Self-reported mean?
Verified means the issuing platform confirmed the certification belongs to you, and it earns its tier points. Expired and retired certifications keep their full points. Self-reported means ownership was not confirmed with the issuer, including uploaded files and photos, and it earns 0 points.
How are points calculated?
Each verified credential earns points based on its tier: Foundational (20), Associate (50), Specialty (75), Professional (100), and Expert (150). Certifications earned through a hands-on practical exam count two to four times their tier value, for example 2x for the CKA and 3x for the OSCP. Expired and retired certifications keep their full points. Course completions and training badges show on your profile but earn 0 points, and so do self-reported certifications. Your total score determines your rank on the leaderboard.
Can I change my alias or real name?
You can change your alias once every 30 days. Once you have any verified credential, your real name is permanently locked to prevent identity switching. All alias and name changes are checked by AI for inappropriate content.
What happens when a credential expires?
Expired and retired certifications keep their full points. Your score is not penalized for expiry. When you renew, add the new badge link. CertScore updates the existing entry instead of counting it twice.
Is CertScore free?
Yes. CertScore is built and maintained by V2C Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. There is no cost to create a profile, verify credentials, or appear on the leaderboard.
